TASMANIA

workaway

It is a website to be a volunteer in many different projects that people need help for. You will have accommodation & food ( sometimes ) in exchange of few hours a day. You can make your profile & visit the countries of your choice & send messages to them to know if you could join them & have your first experience as a workawayer !

I found on the website a family with a 12 hectares propriety with horses, chickens, rabbits, apple trees, plants, roses, vegetable gardens… in the middle of nothing. It is very quiet & peaceful place. I helped mostly to water the plants, cut the bad plants in the vegetable gardens, pick the apples from the trees, clean around the huge garden & the little forest f their propriety.

First day, it is a very good weather so I go in town to visit “Launceston”. The “Cataract Gorge” is a beautiful walk of 30 mins right in town. Wonderful landscapes & a beautiful feeling. Definitely the “thing to do” in Launceston town.

I walked back to town & visited “Victoria Museum”. I started to plan a bit my next travel around Tasmania with a camper van.

The next weeks, the weather changed & it was often rainy & windy. I still can work to plant some in new compartment. A lot of new flower pots to do.

Sometimes have some company in the morning, on my walk in the forest, some wallabies jumping away.

The 2 weeks went fast & it is time for me to take the camper van.

CAMPER VAN

Booked a camper van with “Auto Rent Hertz”, The van was 1 218 AU$ for 3 weeks & a half. Start of the trip ;

“LAUNCESTON” to “EVANDALE” – It is a very cute little town where you can walk on parks.

“DELORAINE” – There are many letter box very funny to come across. The road is beautiful with all the colors, landscapes & very nice people.

“CHUDLEIGH” – Honey factory very nice to visit on the side of the road.

“WILLMOT” – Forest road with more & more artistic letter boxes.

“CRADLE MOUNTAINS” – You can park in the big parking there & you pay for a shuttle to go to the start of the walks.

“QUEENSTOWN” – A big town very close to the west cost with the beaches etc. Unlikely, it is rainy & windy.

I changed my mind at the end & went back to “Launceston” to give back the camper van & do something else. 571 Km in total.

TIPS

The season is not the greatest to travel in a camper van around “Tasmania”. I will definitely advise to don’t have the same experience on the same time in the year, or if you love to be under the rain all the time & don’t mind to don’t have some sun & travelers around you, it is for you !
